Mercedes Rosende (Montevideo, 1958) is a Uruguayan writer, journalist and lawyer, with a degree in Law and an MA in Integration Policies. Her literary noir novels Mujer equivocada (Wrong Woman), El miserere de los cocodrilos (Crocodile Tears), Qué ganas de no verte nunca más (The Hand that Feeds You) are translated in German, English, Italian, and French. Film/TV adaptation rights for all three novels have been optioned, and in 2023 a fourth chapter of the “Ursula cycle”, Nunca saldrás de aquí (You’ll Never Get Out of Here) was published. Rosende has also published a collection of short stories, Historias de mujeres feas (Stories of Ugly Women), and the noir novel, La muerte tendrá tus ojos (Death Will Have Your Eyes). Rosende has received multiple awards, such as the Uruguayan National Literature Prize in 2008 and the German LiBeratur Preis in 2019.
